If you could magically get any drug from a psychiatrist which one would you get and why?

No, yes... maybe... I've tried d-amphetamine once but didn't have a script for it (I do for methylphenidate) and it felt useful, so I can see why people would prefer it. However, I thought (and feel) methylphenidate has a better safety/side effect profile edging it closer to nootropic? Could just be my intermittent long term use of it causing some bias.

Most people find methylphenidate, or any piperidine for that matter, as less effective than amphetamine and other phenylethylamines. A lot of users describe Ritalin as an up and down rollercoaster, where amphetamine is a constant push.
Traditionally, amphetamine was thought to be the damaging one, as it actually entered the neuron and inhibited VMAT-2. However, new evidence is coming to light that DAT re-uptake inhibitors can also cause neurotoxicity. Amp is probably still more damaging, though.
Everyone is different, so perhaps you just react better to methylphenidate.
