Modafinil, cumulative or not?

I've heard modafinil is cumulative in effect, becoming stronger over time; I've also heard after a couple of days/weeks of consecutive use many people develop a tolerance. This seems contradictory - can anyone explain?
I ask because I started taking modafinil daily for fatigue/sleepiness/depression and found the need to continually redose else the little effect it has quickly wears off. How can this be the wonderdrug to rival Ritalin? I haven't felt much increase in motivation or energy at all. I still often feel fatigued on it, though admittedly not as much.

I understand this, but why am I still often tired? Its also a smartdrug, but I don't feel any more focused or quickthinking. I still feel brainfogged.

It might be your COMT Val158Met polymorphism. Those with Met/Met (AA) alleles have been shown to be non-responders to modafinil. Those with Val/Val (GG), like me, are responders. To find out you will have to get genetic testing done.
Here is a clip from my 23andMe COMT results.
You can see that I am GG, which means that I will respond to modafinil. If you were to run your tests and get AA in the top result, you would know for sure.
