Modafinil, cumulative or not?

I've heard modafinil is cumulative in effect, becoming stronger over time; I've also heard after a couple of days/weeks of consecutive use many people develop a tolerance. This seems contradictory - can anyone explain?
I ask because I started taking modafinil daily for fatigue/sleepiness/depression and found the need to continually redose else the little effect it has quickly wears off. How can this be the wonderdrug to rival Ritalin? I haven't felt much increase in motivation or energy at all. I still often feel fatigued on it, though admittedly not as much.

Definitely not cumulative in effects. There is a noticeable tolerance to the stimulation, but not the wakefulness. You are not going to notice motivation, or even energy in comparison to dopaminiergic stimulants. It's really a wakefulness promoting agent.
