So, with a bog standard American diet, this sounds like "take ECCG", is that a correct assumption? Or would the levels of L-carnosine needed to see an impact be higher than is obtained through a typical diet?

It depends on your diet. However, you can definitely get the appropriate amount of L-carnosine from dietary sources. The EGCG is much harder, because it takes high plasma concentrations to reach high enough concentrations in the brain. This pretty much means you have to supplement EGCG in some way. Also, if you take quercetin with your EGCG, you can increase the permeation of the BBB by EGCG. Caffeine has this effect as well, which is why tea can be helpful on it's own. However, you need to drink a lot of tea to see the benefits.
