Too much meddling will get you killed. Don't monkey around with your brain until you are 300% sure what you are doing, and 500% sure what is doing what to you.
The post on the front page asking for a simple guide to "GABA/MAO/AMPA/dopamine, inhibitors/receptors, etc..." is of utmost importance.
This is a timely reminder to the denizens of /r/nootropics, based on my own experience this morning, which I will now relate in brief.
mixing many natural 100% organic herbs and plants\* into small pills to treat anxiety, focus the mind, alleviate minor depression. damiana, avena sativa, rhodiola, ginko biloba, green tea, yerba mate.
\*other users have added commentary here which should be implied, and i felt so clearly that i didn't remember to directly include: this does not mean they are "safe" in any circumstances
whoops tyrosine and MAOIs.
walking first thing in the morning on a somewhat empty stomach, decide to eat one. (whoops, dose-response curve gets pinched along the time axis)
sit down at a cafe, open my computer to a back-up of wikipedia.
almost immediately figure out what's going on. blood-brain barrier, neurotransmitters, hypertension, cheese effect... serotoni…

Exactly what happened. I pieced it together myself at the cafe at the last second. I believe that, in addition to maybe some other interactions (stimulant effect from yerba mate tea i drank? mangos the night before? exercise of walking with a heavy bag? cold temperature outside and poor clothing? something in my medical history/profile?)

You have learned a valuable lesson today. You cannot trust others to look out for your own safety. Most of the time people are too incompetent to give you the correct information. Other times they are too distracted or forgetful. You must always be the last line of defense.
