MDMA preload - magnesium and 5-htp

Original post in this thread

So my dentist told me im sort of a tooth grinder. Nothing major, and pretty surely unrelated to MDMA (i noticed that i do it pretty immediately after I left the office, very sober). But I definitely do grind my teeth when ON MDMA, and while I don't take it terribly often (about once every 2-3 months), i'd like to minimize grinding. My jaw often hurts the next day too.

So anyway I did some research and discovered that magnesium seems to help people with this and wanted to know what people's experiences were with dosage and effectiveness.

And also i found some info about 5-htp in these travels that contradicted with my previous knowledge - I thought you were supposed to load up on 5-htp the week before and the week after, but abstain from it the day you take the MDMA. Pretty sure I heard that here actually. Thoughts?

Dude, youre a smart man. I apologize for doubting you. Thanks for the detailed response. I hope others see it as well.

Got a question for ya to keep this rollin (pun intended I guess). I take melatonin regularly before bed (3mg pill). I figured I could just be preloading without trying. I saw a post about melatonin/serotinin relationship. I barely understood it and assumed it would help as a preloader. I now understand preloading is stupid. Would you say not taking melatonin (or 5htp for others in this situation) for 2 weeks would help stop the down regulation going on?

Melatonin is not going to raise serotonin stores. It is produced by a breakdown of serotonin. 5-HT must be methylated then acylated to create melatonin. It does this in the pineal gland, which is outside of the blood brain barrier. Supplementing melatonin should not raise serotonin levels in any significant amounts. However, it is a damn good antioxidant, so taking once your roll is over is a good idea. I do it every time I roll. It will help you sleep and scavenge any oxidative substances that may be left. There is no reason to worry about melatonin and down-regulation.

Preloading 5-HTP is stupid. However, preloading antioxidants and magnesium is a good idea. You definitely want to give your body the substances it needs to naturally protect itself.
