MDMA preload - magnesium and 5-htp

Original post in this thread

So my dentist told me im sort of a tooth grinder. Nothing major, and pretty surely unrelated to MDMA (i noticed that i do it pretty immediately after I left the office, very sober). But I definitely do grind my teeth when ON MDMA, and while I don't take it terribly often (about once every 2-3 months), i'd like to minimize grinding. My jaw often hurts the next day too.

So anyway I did some research and discovered that magnesium seems to help people with this and wanted to know what people's experiences were with dosage and effectiveness.

And also i found some info about 5-htp in these travels that contradicted with my previous knowledge - I thought you were supposed to load up on 5-htp the week before and the week after, but abstain from it the day you take the MDMA. Pretty sure I heard that here actually. Thoughts?

You wanna back up that claim of getting Serotonin Syndrome from taking 5HTP the day of? You know people PRE and post load with 5htp right?

5HTP gives your body serotonin, or at least the ingredients for your body to make it. How would having an excess of serotonin be bad for a drug that uses/wastes serotonin? I understand you dont wanna fill yours gas tank to the brim everyday, but it wont hurt before a long road trip.

That study used 5-HTP and an an MAOI to induce serotonin syndrome. A serotonin releaser like MDMA is going to cause even more extracellular 5-HT than an MAOI would. I've witnessed people going to the hospital because they took 5-HTP with their MDMA. Don't do it!

This study paired 5-HTP with a serotonin releaser to cause serotonin syndrome.

Yes! Why do you think I keep telling people not to do it? Before I knew better, I tried it. Everyone online told me to do so. It killed my roll. Absolutely stopped all euphoria. Luckily I took a reasonable dose. If I had been more reckless, I could have tried to dose more and gotten serotonin syndrome. This rampant misinformation is what I am trying to stop. I am trying to get the right information out there so that people don't hurt themselves.

5HTP gives your body serotonin, or at least the ingredients for your body to make it. How would having an excess of serotonin be bad for a drug that uses/wastes serotonin? I understand you dont wanna fill yours gas tank to the brim everyday, but it wont hurt before a long road trip.

You don't understand the delicate balance the body tries to maintain. Sure, if you are low on serotonin, adding 5-HTP can increase your stores. However, why are you low? Did you take MDMA 2 weeks before? Then fucking wait! In that instance, taking 5-HTP will help make your second roll better. However, it also means that you are causing even more down-regulation of your 5-HT receptors, and even more lowering of tryptophan hydroxylase. Your body has not recovered yet. Take a break! If you have high enough serum concentrations of 5-HT, then add more 5-HTP to the mix, your body will compensate by down-regulation. This kills your roll. If you have a normal concentration of 5-HT, and you add 5-HTP the day of your roll, then your serum levels will be replenishing during your roll. This means more extracellular 5-HT, and more chance of serotonin syndrome. So preloading means one of two things. A, you are rolling too much and need to take a break. Or B, your 5-HT levels are fine, and you are actually causing down-regulation by supplementing, and raising the risk of serotonin syndrome. There is no reason to preload if you are using MDMA properly.
