ADD/ADHD drugs

I've been having a hard time concentrating lately, and it's been on simple things. I feel "aloof" sometimes. When I try to sit down and read things, I'll find myself thinking about something else 5 minutes later, or I'll be doing something else that is less important. Sometimes It catches up with me and I'll wait until the last minute, which effects me negatively a lot of the time.
I'm thinking about going in to my family doctor and talking to him about all of this, although I'd like to hear what you all think, and whether it would be a good idea to try some drugs that help you focus/keep you on task first?

In my humble opinion, ADD/ADHD is very over-diagnosed. Most family care practitioners do not understand the mechanisms well enough to make proper decisions. They know what the texts books say and what they drug companies push. Not that their expertise is worthless, but use them as a tool, not as a solution.
Before you start considering stimulants to combat your perceived attention issues, I would look to some other avenues. You need to get to the root of your problem.
Are you finding things boring and uninteresting? Are you simply getting distracted by other interesting things? Do you find yourself physically unable to focus, or psychologically unwilling to focus? Are you getting anxious, which causes your thoughts to be pulled away, or are you slowly drifting? The only person that can answer these questions is you, so you need to do some introspection. ADD/ADHD is a very broad term. Treatment can be drastically different depending on your symptoms.
