Can I ignore the negative health risks associated with Caffeine if I supplement it with l-theanine?

What they were answering

you know what I'm asking.

High blood pressure etc

No I don't know what you are asking, unless you actually ask it. Caffeine has many different side effects, and they are not all linked to the same systems.

Caffeine is an adenosine receptor competitive inhibitor. This antagonism leads to higher levels of many of the brain's neurotransmitters. The jittery feelings and elevated heart rates are due to norepinephrine, and to a some extent, glutamate. Caffeine also decreases the activity of acetylcholinesterase. This increases the levels of ACh in your system, leading to it's slight nootropic effect. Caffeine is also a phosphodiesterase inhibitor, which leads to increased levels of epinephrine in the system. It also increases lipid oxidation and decreases usage of glycogen by muscles. It's actions widespread and varied.

L-theanine increases the levels of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). This is your body's main inhibitory neurotransmitter, which counteracts some of the stimulant properties found in caffeine. L-theanine also increases dopamine levels. It also has been shown to be a glutamic acid antagonist. This will protect you from excitioxocity, which caffeine can exacerbate due to it's effects on glutamate.

L-Theanine will:

* Help with jittery feelings associated with caffeine's increase in norepinephrine and glutamate.

* Help with a mental calming effect due to it's increase in GABA.

* Boost the immune system by increasing T cells.

L-theanine will NOT:

* Effect caffeine induced increases in acetylcholine.

* Effect caffeine induced increases in epinephrine or lipid oxidation.

* Effect caffeine tolerance.

* Effect caffeine's alteration of sleep cycles.

Something is wrong with this sub

Replying to amirrorbehind · One of the contributing factors is the cult of celebrity. I need not explain who nor am I criticizing, but once a respected member of our community turned into a research chemical

Yep, my fault guys. I'll just stop posting, and things will get better. It's all on me... You can all go back to caffeine/L-theanine, long winded modafinil, and "does piracetam work" posts. No need to advance the communi

What is the best nootropic for someone looking primarily for a boost of energy and motivation that's stronger than caffeine but less extreme than amphetamines?

6mg of melatonin is too much. I take .5-1mg. Melatonin has been shown to be much more effective at lower doses. Lower your dose and see how that works. 6mg would mean a very hard time waking up, and hours of foggyness in

I wrestled with that one for a long long time. I don't blame you for being disappointed. The vast majority of the products we are releasing are not going to be proprietary. However, the Alcohol Defense definitely needed

A word on caffeine + l-theanine

Replying to AoE-Priest · Both interesting studies. The first one actually also showed some anti-nootropic effects of theanine as well, but overall both studies seem to be suggestive of at least minor syner

L-theanine is certainly anti-nootropic for me, unless I am using much stronger stimulants than caffeine. Everyone's GABAergic system is going to vary. Mine has seen some things. I can take all sorts of stimulants, and be

Anyone else take L-theanine every day?

Replying to zpkmook · You could say the same for most drugs. It is new in it's isolated concentrated form. Plenty of people think that it could be dangerous in the high dose ranges because they have not

You can't really say that about most drugs, though. Not much has been used more than caffeine, L-theanine, and alcohol across human history. Also, it's not new in its concentrated form. It was discovered in 1949, and fir
