Study: 10 Grams of Lion's Mane Useless

What do you guys think of this fairly new study, in which 10 grams of Hericium Erinaceus for the duration of 4 weeks was useless in a young college cohort compared to placebo?

Thanks for the reply! But that confuses me quite a bit, now. Don't 1:1 LM extracts undergo higher temperature extraction to destroy the chitinous walls of the mushroom and increase bioavailability? IIRC, it was somewhere around 80-100 °C. I thought that was the entire point. And I can't help but think about this LM cookie study, where 0.5 grams of LM was baked in a cookie preparation, and an effect was observed. Is there a steep degradation/temperature inflection behind all this, where 80-100 °C recover most actives, while a 50-100% jump from there destroys far more?

I'd appreciate your take on this. And also… when's your Lion's Mane coming out?

Our 1:1 mushrooms go through an 80*C water bath. That's 176*F. That's much lower than traditional baking temps of 350-400*F. We also analyze the mushrooms after we put them through that process, not before. It also depends on the actives you are looking at. Erinacines, hericenones, and hericenes are all going to have different temperature stabilities. It's just not a very controlled way of doing things, especially for a research study. I get that it might be easier to blind people with muffins than capsules, but not at the expense of validity. I also wouldn't really try to test the 1:1 lion's mane for the measures they did. Nobody thinks of lion's mane when they want to improve lipid oxidation or VO2 max. Cordyceps would be the one I would test for those measures. Then I would do a dedicated memory and cognition study on lion's mane, and I would use a more concentrated extract. The study design here was just all whack. I am not sure we can really glean much from it, positively or negatively.
