Maca

Is ND's maca good or is there better? I keep reading about gelanitized maca, black maca etc. Which is the one to go for for mood and confidence? Testosterone and libido boosts would be welcomed secondary goals.

Ours is a very potent and specific extract targeting the endocannabinoid/FAAH effects. It's going to feel very different than almost all macas out there, since it is very different than every other maca. There is an argument we may have gone too focused on this one, as we are not targeting the big group of other things in maca. However, this is how we learn about mechanisms and create better products in the future. Everyone talks about macamides/macaenes as the primary actives, but I think we have proven that to not be the case. They are certainly the main actives for the endocannabinoid effects, but many people are probably looking for the more energetic effects from the alkaloids, glucosinolates, and thiohydantoins. Some might also be reacting to the nutrients and minerals in whole maca root. For those people looking to feel that traditional maca feel, our maca will be a disappointment. It's very much a cannabinoid-like effect.
My whole goal was to make a very specialized maca that didn't hurt my stomach, as I have had a horrible time with maca in the past. I totally fucked my stomach up with maca from other brands, and I wanted to avoid that with ours. I think in doing so I made it very very specialized. However, this is not the end of the story for us and maca. We have been working on other maca extracts as well, and we will release some more than are focused on the traditional effects. It's just a slow process, as I am trying to really avoid the GI issues. I don't like releasing products that I have not personally trialed. This is tough for me because it's like Russian roulette. We are beta testing all these other macas, and they keep fucking my stomach up! There might come a point where I just say fuck it, and accept that maybe I can't make a traditional maca that gives the effects everyone else loves, but doesn't fuck my stomach up. Then I can keep using our current maca, which I like as part of my stack, and give everyone other options that I will just avoid personally.
The same goes for our kava, too. Our kava is also a very specialized one targeting the pain/inflammation/muscle relaxing effects. However, lot of people want kava for the heady effects. This is why we are working on different strains to release for those people, and some of those will be kavas that people will prepare traditionally. We are actually working with a big player in the kava world now. They came out to our facility last week. We showed them around our facility and lab, and had a long conversation with them about partnering. They have their own kava farms, and know cultivating kava better than we do. We know the science, and can help them push our understanding of the actives and standardization forward. Us partnering to help each other makes us both better. We might do something similar with maca. Who knows. Sometimes there is no reason to reinvent the wheel. Partnering with people, and letting everyone do what they do best, can sometimes make the most sense. Plus, we like working with friendly people in a collaborative sense in the industry to push standards forward. Seeing everyone else as competitors gets exhausting. I'd rather have friends and partners. Maybe I will reach out to The Maca Team to see if they would be interested. If they are as friendly and knowledgeable as the guys we are working with for kava, it might be a cool partnership! If not, we will certainly go it alone, though. One way or another, we will release more maca products that give people the traditional effects they are looking for.
