As far as I know beta alanine is far superior at raising carnosine levels than carnosine itself.

No, beta alanine cannot make enough L-carnosine to overwhelm your carnosinase enzyme, because the conversion of beta alanine is also rate-limited. Beta alanine is good for keeping steady carnosine levels. However, if you want the telomere shortening effects, you need to overwhelm your carnosinase enzyme to reach higher plasma levels. The only way to do that is to take a larger dose of L-carnosine.
