I think he is referring to the other mushroom supplements like poria, white jelly, shiitake or Turkey Tail. Those don't have a "ratio" I believe.
Just out of curiosity I recently ordered shiitake, white jelly and poria from ND.
What is your personal opinion on them? Do you use them yourself?
And what would the dosages equate to if I were to take the mushroom in its original form? How many grams of shiitake do I have to consume to get 500mg worth of the ND shiitake extract?

Those are just 1:1 mushroom powders. They are put through a hot water extraction to break down the chitin in the cell walls of the mushroom to make them more bioavailable, but they are not concentrated like a traditional solvent extraction. That doesn't mean they are bad. I really love white jelly, maitake, and turkey tail myself. Poria is interesting, but harder to pin down. It has the most beta-glucans of all the mushrooms, though.
I absolutely use them myself. I use tons of our products. Many times we bring out products just because I personally want a good source for them myself. White jelly is fantastic for skin health, but it also has some interesting mood effects that surprise many people. Shiitake has some good mood effects, paired with metabolic and anti-inflammatory effects. Poria is generally used for cellular health, immune function, and brain health. It has a nootropic effect as well. The main issue with these mushrooms is that they have a lot less hype than cordyceps, lion's mane, and reishi. They are slow sellers because people are not making videos of them and hyping them up. This is why we have not really brought out more concentrated extracts of them yet. They are just slow sellers. That being said, we have expanded our production facility with smaller semi-auto machines, which will allow us to do smaller production runs of things that we think will sell slower. This will allow us to bring out some of these other mushrooms in more potent extracts, and just do small runs of them so that we don't have a lot of wasted product to scrap if they don't sell well. It's always a balance bringing out new products. We want to get people exited about new things, but we also don't want to create a bunch of waste if they don't sell well.
Mushrooms in fresh form are mostly water weight. You will lose about 90-95% of mass in drying. So lets say you are taking 500mg of our shiitake 1:1. That's roughly the equivalent of 5-10 grams of mushroom. However, that's not a direct correlation, due to the hot water extraction. You'll absorb much more actives from our 1:1 powders than you would from consuming equivalents of fresh mushrooms. Furthermore, fresh mushrooms are not standardized to actives. They are going to range from fruiting body to fruiting body. Our process standardizes things so that each dose is the same.
