Terrible smell from bottle of caffeine/l-theanine capsules

I ordered a caffeine/l-theanine supplement from Nootropics Depot on Amazon. As soon as I opened the bottle I was hit with a really strong stench. The best way I can describe it a strong vinegar smell, mixed with the smell of paint, and it isn't going away.
Is this normal? I've tried a couple of the capsules now and they were fine. It's just really weird. Could this happen from being left out in the heat for too long? It's been quite hot out recently so maybe it was sitting out in the heat at the warehouse or something.
FWIW, the packaging envelope was also opened when I found it at my door yesterday but the bottle was still sealed.

So I drove into our office and pulled the retained unit from that Amazon lot. No smell at all. I also smelled the retained of the bulk capsule batch. No smell there. So it is likely the Amazon warehouse heating up and causing the plastic bottle to off gas. Luckily the caffeine and L-theanine inside is very stable, so the capsules should be perfectly fine. I can check with our Amazon rep to see if maybe they had some ACs go out or something, but they likely won't really tell us anything. Amazon is not very helpful to vendors. However, the capsules themselves should be all good.
