Need help about ACE2 pathway, nicotine role, potential nootropic to upregulate the expression of it.

Hey, (not on my main reddit account but dont matter)

I'm confused about ACE2, i had read some study regarding this. Technically, if i understand well, it's a kind of peptide (so i guess, epigenetic related ?).

Study say "downregulate" or "upregulate" ACE2. I know these terms for neurotransmitters and receptors of it. But for peptides and stuff i don't really catch the meaning of these terms.

For exemple, ACE2, "peptide" downregulated from nicotine, admitting i quit nicotine cold turkey, will the body compansate with a massive rush of ACE2 due to nicotine sessation and peptide deprivation ? (Which is not really the case with receptors of let's say dopamine if it was downregulate).

Now, is there any nootropic that can "upregulate" OR "boost" (yeah.. ?) ACE2 in the ND store ?

For this i'm calling you u/MisterYouAreSoDumb i think this is really important for the community and particularly elderly people with health problems. (regarding the thing we can't talk about, this kind of very litle monster that make the world crazy. I hope you understand what i'm talking about or don't missread this metaphor).

Thank you

Gosh thank you for these clear explanations. You could be a very great teacher.

So. Basically, ACE2 enzyme "open the body" for Covid to enter, but also make it way less dangerous, and kick it way faster.

That's funny how you describe the relation with zinc, because there is some clames that zinc ionophore also help clear out the virus faster, at least in the begining or prevention phase.

Thank you for resveratol, good stuff. No need to explain, it work and btw i probably won't understand shit about the science behing it.

Regarding nicotine, it's a strange stuff. I just quit smoking because i feel better after 2 hours of vaping 0mg nicotine. Was just curious about it.

Thanks! I actually was a teacher for years.

On the COVID-19 side, it's hard to speculate regarding ACE2 expression. We know that blocking the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2 from binding to ACE2 is a good thing in the early stages, as it blocks the virus from entering the cells. However, the ACE2 receptor is also involved in the immune response as well. In patients that were hit hard by it, levels of IL-1β, IL-10 and IL-8 were higher. This effect was mediated by the ACE2 receptors, which is what people are referring to as a cytokine storm. The ACE2 receptors also mediate the good immune response, too. SARS-CoV-2 also down-regulates ACE2 during the infection, which can make the infection worse by lowering angiotensin-2 as well. So it is really complex. On the surface it would seem that up-regulating ACE2, but blocking the spike protein on the virus, is the best way to go about it. However, the jury is still out. One thing is for certain: it's a lot more complex of an interaction with ACE2 than can be summed up succinctly.

I know a lot of people say fasoracetam is a GABAb antagonist, but that's actually not true. It's actions are much more complex than that. Essentially Fasoracetam modulates the metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluRs). T
