Phenylpiracetam smells like cheap plastic

I've ordered 30g from nootropics depot. The stuff that came has this intensive smell. It's hard to describe but it does remind me of crappy plastic and even the smell you get from batteries/cheap electronic stuff.
Is this normal/acceptable?
The previous time that I ordered from them I did not notice any smell but then again it was only 5g so it might have something to do with that. I mean, differences in the way they make smaller vs bigger packages if that's a thing.

Personally a lot of the tastes/smells of your products have gotten to the point to where they induce nostalgia lmao (that sweet gs15-4 taste always makes me feel younger)
Also u/dtm558 there’s your answer :D

We have little organoleptic sessions in my office to set out acceptance criteria. There are like 6 of us, and we all are blinded. We smell various powders and all decide what we think they smell like. Then we come to a general conclusion as to what our spec should be, and what most people would describe the smell as. It's crazy the variability between people on smell. So we set specs for what a typical smell should be for a specific product. If a batch falls outside those specs, my lab director has to get involved to approve it. If he is not sure, they get me involved to approve it. We used to send off for residual solvent testing if we smelled something weird, but I bought us our own GC-FID system for our lab. So now we just test every batch every time for residual solvents, and let the extremely accurate detector tell us what is in there. We still do organoleptic testing, but the GC-FID testing happens every time regardless now. Nothing can beat an accurate and calibrated analytical machine giving you quantitative results based off qualified reference standards.
