Questions about Polygala

Original post in this thread

I recently received my polygala order and took 300 mg two days ago, 400 mg yesterday. I bought it to boost agmatine’s beneficial effects on mood, but havent noticed much effect yet in that department. Is there a typical time for mood effects to become apparent? For me, I know with agmatine it takes about four days for the mood effects to appear.

Also the dosing on this herb is weird, kinda seems like a has a fairly narrow dosage window for its stimulating effects. When I hit 400 mg yesterday, it definitely gave me an “in my face” sedation, whereas 300mg was more of an energy booster. Is there a u-shaped curve for this guy?

Thanks!

Also, I recognize that saying it doesn’t have much effect on mood and then explaining how I’ve experienced both stimulation and sedation while taking Polygala can seem contradictory.

However, neither the stimulatory nor the sedative seemed to alter my mood much, more so my energy levels.

That’s an interesting study. Maybe I’ll try to take my daily 300mg an hour before bed instead of spread throughout the day.

And good to know about the week duration. Perhaps the mood effects I’m looking for come from enhanced neuroplasticity rather than the immediate increase in monoamine levels (or maybe a combination of both is necessary).

Maybe I’ll try to do a more objective write up next Tuesday (for myself) and, if I decide to continue, another write-up at the one month mark. I’ll post back here if I go the whole month.

We suggest 100mg 3X per day. That's good for steady state plasma levels. It also seems to be best for mood. I find that too high a polygala dose can be counterproductive for me for mood. Lower can sometimes be better, like with alpha-GPC.
