Greens Powders

Original post in this thread

u/misteryouaresodumb I don’t think the possibility of a greens powder from ND/Natrium has ever been mentioned, but curious if this has been discussed at all? Have you used any of these products in the past? Would be interested to know how some of the leading brands test in terms of accuracy of ingredients given how many ingredients these often list. Thanks!

What they were answering

Wow thanks for the detailed response!

Yes I was referring to those types of “superfood” greens - I think one of the most common/leading brands is Amazing Grass.

So would you suggest if people still want to use these to go with one with a lower amount of ingredients? Would you say organic matters/provides lower probability of contamination and or/toxins? Or would you just avoid these entirely?

The convenience factor of potentially adding a decent dose of wide spectrum greens at a reasonable cost, quickly, and easily is definitely enticing to myself and I think many people like me. But ultimately it isn’t worth it if potential contaminants/toxins could make a product do more harm than good or if you’re not actually consuming what you think.

Leading brand on Amazon means they paid more for fake reviews than anyone else. That's the only way to get to those rankings. You have to give away thousands of units of free product for reviews, and bolster those with fake paid reviews. If you don't do that, you will never get to the top spot on a competitive product on Amazon. You also likely have to sell at a loss for a while to get your sales velocity up, then raise your price. Looking at it, that's EXACTLY what Amazing Grass did!

You can see they dropped it to $17.80 recently, from the current $36.99. That will massively help your sales velocity, which Amazon will then jump you up the rankings for. Pair that with compensated and fake reviews, and baby you got a leading spot stew going!

So would you suggest if people still want to use these to go with one with a lower amount of ingredients?

I would pick and choose specific individual ingredients you wanted, then stack them yourself. Many of them are useless fluff. Picking and choosing the specific ones you want will also allow you flexibility to put them in the ratios and amounts you want.

Would you say organic matters/provides lower probability of contamination and or/toxins? Or would you just avoid these entirely?

Organic is meaningless. It's all bullshit. Most brands that claim to be certified organic are not, and are just lying. There's almost no consequences for doing it. Then even if they are, certified organic doesn't mean what people think it means. You want actual answers from the brand about their quality control and testing procedures. 99% of the time they are using a contract manufacturer, and don't have any quality control procedures of their own. They just tell a contract manufacturer what they want, and hope for the best.

I know convenience sells. It's the biggest selling point for most people. However, what's the point in taking something if it is fake, impure, or ineffective? I think your strategy should be to work on making your diet more balance, then picking specific supplements you want to add in for specific purposes. If you want EGCG for its effects, add that specifically in. If you want punicalagins, add a pomegranate extract. If you want specific flavonoids or polyphenols, add them in individually, or add in extracts that are standardized to them. Sure, it's more complicated. However, once you figure out the stack that works best for your body, it's easy to keep replicating.
