MitoQ is just mitoquinol mesylate in an extremely low dosage. That's a derivative of CoQ10, but I am not convinced of the science. You would be much better off taking a larger dose of a high-bioavailability ubiquionol for long periods to let it build up in your body. It's also overpriced like crazy.
Mitoquinol mesylate is actually more of a derivative of idebenone, which itself is a synthetic derivative of CoQ10. I am actually surprised they are trying to call it a supplement, as it is firmly in the synthetic category. It's a drug derivative. Essentially they are taking idebenone, then adding a triphenylphosphonium cation to the end of the long carbon chain. They claim this makes it pass cellular membranes better, but I think the science needs to catch up. Also, this is absolutely an investigational new drug in the US. It cannot be legally sold as a dietary supplement. I mean, they are funding drug studies themselves... It's going to be hard to argue it's not a drug.
