China’s CRISPR twins might have had their brains inadvertently enhanced (2019)

Have PhD. Have done work on CCR5. All of this is stupid.

It would be appreciated if you explain yourself a bit. As it stands, readers here have no idea what you are criticizing. Is it the initial comment? Is it the research? Is it the interpretation of the research? Is it the ethical issue behind what the Chinese researcher did?

There is a reason many people complain about the quality of the discussion here. If people knowledgeable on a topic only make passing comments about their knowledge, but do not share any of that knowledge in a useful fashion, then we are left with a bunch of emotional Twitter-type banter. That's not what anyone wants. However, the only people capable of elevating the discourse to a higher level are those with detailed knowledge about whatever topic is being discussed. If the only people commenting on a post regarding CCR5 have no intimate knowledge about it, then we just devolve into uselessness. I would hope everyone here wants this place to be more than just an outlet for quick passing comments with no substance.
