R-ALA cyclodextrin dosing

Original post in this thread

Hi,

According to Ikuta et al. in "Bioavailability of an R-α-Lipoic Acid/γ-Cyclodextrin Complex in Healthy Volunteers" (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4926482/#!po=22.0588)
6g of R-ALA Cy is equivalent to only 600mg of Na-R-ALA. The reccomended dosing of R-ALA Cy according to ND is 500mg. If you see table 2 and chart 2 you can see to get the increased bioavailability benefits of R-ALA Cy still requires a larger dose of powder, I think it means more of the total powder weight is the cyclodextrin complex vs. smaller weight of sodium content of Na-R-ALA. So while the actual R-lipoic acid is better uptaken when in cyclodextrin complex, the fraction of each mg of R-a-lipoic acid in Na-R-ALA is way higher, i think only 5% is sodium, while the cyclodextrin appears to take up 90% of each mg of powder.

If you took 500mg of R-ALA Cy, you would only need 125mg of Na-R-ALA to match the bioavailability, even taking into account the 2.5x increased bioavailability of cyclodextrin form because there is just so little actual lipoic acid and so much cyclodextrin taking up space in the powder.

This means the R-ALA Cy needs to be dosed at a prohibitively expensive amount, using 10…

Thanks, I've wanted to know this info.

I still hate your Shilajit the most.

Shilajit is a horrible taste, too. However, I have gotten pretty used to it. It tastes like crushed up rocks and soil with cat piss on it. LOL

Let me tell you... burping up alpha lipoic acid has to be the worst thing in the world; apart from maybe burning alive or drowning after being burnt alive. It tastes horrible, burns, and lingers for a long time. It's just no good. Putting ALA into a drink, whether it be Na-R-ALA or racemic ALA, is just not a good idea. You can put the cyclodextrin in a drink without issue, though.

Perhaps we should mix sulbutiamine, shilajit, Na-R-ALA, pramiracetam, and pyritinol into a drink and see how that tastes. Maybe add a little kratom in there, too! We'd get the bitter, sour, burning, dank, and cat piss flavors all at once! That would be horrible... just horrible.

My comment was more for everyone else reading. You have to remember that a lot of people come here who are just starting out, and might see kratom being mentioned on a nootropics subreddit, then automatically consider it

Got an impressive shipment of various racetams yesterday and today is day II of experimenting with all of them. Took quite a variety today, then about two hours ago I gook pramiracetam. I just woke up in my bed. I don't remember going to sleep. Anyone experience anything similar?

HAHA, you're ridiculous! Second day trying racetams and you take double the effective dosage of the newest untested one, along with a large dose of oxiracetam, and EXTREMELY large dose of nefiracetam, double my nootpept

1) It's hard to say. Nefiracetam might be good, as that binds to the glycine site of the NMDAR. However, I am not convinced of its safety. You can be safe and start with the tried and true piracetam, and go from there.
