This is a nootropics group. Stop w/ this other BS

This will be real quick, and I'm sure, polarizing. Comment however you want, but if you're upset about this post, chances are, I'm talking to you.

* This subreddit is primarily a nootropics subreddit. Meaning: racetams, afinils, choline sources, acetylcholine modulating nootropics, NGF modulating compounds, nootropic herbs, etc.

* More and more, though, over the last two years, it has become a meeting place and discussion room for doing STUPID SHIT, like combining amphetamines with shit like Cabergoline. I have no idea why moderation allows bullshit like this.

* Reiterating: this is a nootropics group. Keep your posts relative to actual nootropics. Take offense or not (I definitely do not care), but keep your wacky druggy talk to some other subreddit, where people have to play the game of continuing to take rogue pharmaceutical compounds because they've relied on chemicals to make them feel normal, because of their continuous bad decisions in life.

Too harsh? Good. I'm probably talking EXACTLY TO YOU.

We need to clean this fucking subreddit up. It's become a druggy infested cesspool of discussion about EVERYTHING BUT TRADITIONAL NOOTROPICS.

Racetams. Afinils. Choline so…

GOD DAMNIT THIS SO MUCH

Jesus christ, I can't stand the whole druggie talk and insane stacks which we have seen here in the past. Calling on the Mods to actually make a standment on this for once.

Why are you so quiet about this issue? The most overvoted threat of this subreddit is a safety talk but we still have these wacky threads here

We've had this discussion many many times before. Half the people want to stick to the strict definition of nootropics, the other half wants to discuss everything. Even in this thread you can see the same dichotomy. Some say amphetamine should be excluded, while others passionately defend it. I personally would not consider amphetamine a nootropic, but I can see the argument for the other side. We've always taken the stance that as long as a thread leads to good discussion, it should be allowed. If someone is doing something stupid, and we just remove the post and nobody tells them what an idiot they are being, they will never learn. There are limits to this, though. So always use the report function if a thread is just bad news. However, blanket banning the discussion of all compounds that don't meet the strict definition of nootropic is not the answer, I am afraid.

As a sub grows, things like this always happen. It's a challenge to maintain the same quality and feel of the older days. I am all ears for ideas on how to do that, but we need to be reasonable about the methods for doing it, and not get into heated back and forth arguments with other Redditors on things. We removed all Modafinil posts for a while, but people complained. So we started allowing limited ones again. The same goes for amphetamine or tianeptine. The problem is there are just not other quality subs we can send people to. Everywhere else is garbage. So it is hard for us to just remove posts and suggest they post them elsewhere, as those places just are not going to lead to anything useful.

If there is a specific thread that needs to be addressed, report it. Many times those reports are frivolous (like this post has been reported twice), but many times we catch them and remove them. Even better, comment on the thread advocating risky behavior, then report it. Tell them why that is a stupid thing to do. Foster a more direct sense of caution. We can still remove the post, but then at least the OP will have gotten a response that might make them reconsider what they are doing.
