Regular ALA is available at a bargain price. Would there be any reason to buy NA-R-ALA over ALA? Mostly interested in the bodybuilding aspect.

There is ZERO reason to buy racemic ALA, and even less reason to buy regular R-ALA. Straight R-ALA has even worse bioavailability than racemic, and Na-R-ALA has much better bioavailability, peak plasma levels, and AUC than either of them. Na-R-ALA taken orally reaches the same levels as intravenous racemic ALA. Not to mention, the S-ALA in racemic competes for absorption and binding with the R-ALA, and pure R-ALA polymerizes at very low temperatures. So it is not stable. The sodium salt of R-ALA is vastly superior in every aspect.
