Krill vs Fish Oil

Original post in this thread

Soo, is there any scientific evidence that Krill is superior in any way? Just noticed the new fish oil by ND, and Krill is far more expensive in comparison with Fish yet the amount of Omega-3s you are getting is significantly lower ( which maybe I am wrong, but was always the biggest benefit of these type of products). I mean 750mg vs 120mg seems kinda big difference.

So is there any actual science on Krill, or is it just a novel thing?

I'm very excited that ND is carrying fish/krill oil now. You guys have very rapidly become my most trusted vendor for nootropics and supplements.

So, I've been taking krill oil (NOW brand) for years. To be honest, I can't even remember why I switched to it from fish oil -- I mean, sure, bio-availability, astaxanthin, etc, but I probably didn't do as rigorous a comparison as I should have.

Given that, a question for you: assuming cost is not a consideration, which product would you use? Cost definitely is a consideration for me, but I can afford your krill oil prices. If that's the best option, I'll do it. But I also wouldn't want to be spending the excess money for no reason.

Would it make sense to alternate between, say, the krill oil and the 70% DHA? E.g. one in the morning, one at night?

And what is the shelf life of the products (and do you recommend storing them in the refrigerator)?

Sorry for so many questions! It's just that I very much respect your opinion on these matters.

Awesome, I am happy to hear that!

With cost not being a consideration, I have been using both the krill and the triple strength. That gets the best of both worlds, with high EPA and DHA, along with phosphorylated versions and astaxanthin.

For those more on a budget, and want some astaxanthin and phosphorylated EPA/DHA, the Alaskrill mix we have is good. You get 90% wild Alaskan salmon oil and 10% krill oil for a lower price. Plus, Alaskan salmon oil contains 8 essential fatty acids, along with vitamins, antioxidants, bioflavonoids, and carotenoids.

For younger people wanting to support brain development, the 70% DHA would be best. Young people need more DHA, which reduces as we age. The exception to that are older people with degenerative diseases like Alzheimer's. Then DHA is crucial to support repair and protection.

For those wanting more heart health benefits and weight loss benefits, the 70% EPA would be good once we release it. Healthy elderly people respond best to high EPA fish oils as well.

But honestly, the best bang for your buck is the triple strength. With 325mg of both DHA and EPA, you get a balanced amount of both at a good price.

You can store them in the fridge. You don't have to, but it will keep things more stable. The shelf life is 2 years for fish oil capsules.
