Aren't racetams ampakines? Shouldn't they have AD effects?

Yes, some racetams positively modulate the AMPA receptors. However, the specific mechanism for Hydroxynorketamine's effects at the AMPA receptor are still unknown. It is probably a different mechanism/binding site, or a combination of its effects at the AMPA receptor and its inhibition of the alpha-7-nicotinic receptor. However, some people do report improvements in their depressive symptoms with certain racetams. It would be interesting to see if one takes an AMPAkine and an alpha-7-nicotinic antagonist together, whether or not they get strong antidepressant effects.
