Hey Alyssa!
It might be an option. I would have to really get a feel for the legalities of it. I know analogs of schedule 3/4 substances are not covered under the analog act. However, that just means the DEA would not bust through my door and shoot me in the face. The FDA might still be an issue. The fact that it is a metabolite of ketamine might pose a risk, as like it or not, people hear that term and immediately think either illicit use or "horse tranquilizer," which is a shame. The fact that it is a ketamine metabolite might raise more suspicion than other compounds that nobody has heard of.
The research itself is pretty cool, though. It's interesting that the NMDA receptor antagonism is not leading to the direct antidepressant effects, but it has more to do with AMPA receptor modulation. This means other substances that target AMPA could be even more effective, and may even allow us to learn more about the underlying cause of long-term depression. I love all this new information coming out!
