Let's talk Ginseng

Original post in this thread

I saw NootropicsDepot released 3 new Ginsengs today so thought it was good time to ask for the difference between them and actual effects of Ginseng. Anyone experienced what it did for you?
Increase in mood? Calmness? Increase in cognition (apparently only on fatigued users) Anyone with actual experience?

And is the ginseng from root gonna have different effect from the one in leaf? Since their ginsegodies are very different.
Cheers.

P.S. Why is the dosage the same for 2 standard Ginsengs as the patented extract, extract apparently 15 times increased absorption, 4 times faster absorption and 4 times more consistent absorption.

Thank you very much for the explanation. I was just looking for a reason to put another order in at ND.

But the leaf extract is a very curious addition. If the ginsenosides in the leaves are present in much higher amounts, then why aren't the leaves nearly as popular? Wouldn't they be much more sustainable to harvest than the root itself, which takes years to mature? I understand that the ginsenoside ratios are slightly different, but wouldn't the much greater amount in general more than make up for a less favorable ratio, assuming the more effective ginsenosides are less represented in the leaves?

I've lived in Korea for nearly 6 years and I've never heard of anyone selling the leaves. Maybe the popularity of the root is a prestige thing...I've heard that jiaogulan (Gynostemma pentaphyllum) is a much more cost-effective alternative to ginseng, but they don't really market that here, either, so who knows.

Anyway I'm not assuming you are an expert on ginseng or anything, but any insight would be great. I'm trying to decide which one I should purchase.

I ask myself questions like this all the time. I run into things like this often, which is why we have been pushing to bring out different versions of things for people to try. The yields are usually higher in the roots, as there is a lot more biomass there compared to the leaves. That could be one reason they do roots more often. However, if you are harvesting the roots, why not do the leaves as well, and get yields from both? Sometimes people do things for no other reason than that is what was traditionally done. That just means there is always room for improvement.
