Are high dosages of tianeptine harmful?

I'm depressed and have been using tianeptine very successfully. It makes me a lot more empathetic, happy, and seems to increase my ability to let go and accept (typical opioid agonist). It feels like a much cleaner, brighter version of kratom with no sedation and little cloudiness. Am I doing harm? The only thing I can think of is liver damage, and I haven't noticed much in that area. Do you think using it in large doses (40 - 60 mg x 3 a day) is bad for the brain? If I discontinue, will I have a down-regulation of all its pro-cognitive effects? I've been using it this way for about 9 days, with 2 days with none. Regardless, I'm going to do a small-scale taper for 2 days. TL;DR Is tianeptine in large doses bad for the brain, and is discontinuing it also bad for the brain? Thanks!

Oh ya, I definitely agree it is prudent to warn of the potential for harm. Especially with people using it recreationally since it is inevitably taken to the point of massive overdose by the least responsible among us. My only point is that "tianeptine is hard on the liver" is inherently a misleading statement based off the available evidence. It is hard on the liver "in some cases" as you say - that is, as far as I can tell, the most accurate description. It is my belief that it is extremely safe, relatively speaking. I think that if it were especially "hard on the liver" we would see people suffering from that by now. We wouldn't have a handful of documented instances in the literature, we would have an epidemic and likely be seeing regulatory intervention. Unless you are predisposed to suffer the damage you probably have nothing to worry about, and seemingly very few people are predisposed.

I would agree. It should be stated that is may be harmful to the liver for certain people, or in certain dosages. Regular therapeutic use is very safe. I would still not mix it with alcohol, or other substances that tax the liver. If nothing else, you just feel like shit the next day.
