Hi there,
I've decided to start going to the gym again, after a fairly long absence. However, I'm not interested in improving my body aesthetically, really, in any way. I'm happy with how I look at the time being, and therefore am wanting to go to the gym purely for the health benefits.
What exercises can I schedule that will be most beneficial for my
1) Overall health
2) Cognition/Thought processes
3) Mood (including anxiety etc.)
I already play soccer for 40 minutes twice a week, fairly intensely, but it is not consistent enough.
I am soon to begin a rigorous, competitive post graduate degree program and I therefore need to be at the top of my game.
Thank you!

Interval training, light resistance training, yoga/meditation, and probably a martial art of some kind. I honestly find mountain biking to be good for the mind too. It gets you out in nature, and forces you to use critical thinking skills to get around obstacles, or find paths. It also forces you to control muscle movement and breathing in such a way to take into account your interaction with the environment around you, and the bike.
