What is the data on the nerve growth factor and cancer?
I have read posts stating the risk of brain cancer is increased exponentially, i've heard others say that there is no risk.
What information do you guys have?
Thanks
EDIT: You guys need to realize that we have over a 40% chance of developing cancer in our life-times and a 20% chance of dying from it. 1/4 people commenting here will probably die of cancer. Seeing as the chance of having existing cancer is extremely high, it seems to me that anything that would promote cancer growth is a big risk.
EDIT 2: It turns out that NGF was discovered in cancer, and is secreted by tumors.
EDIT 3: The lady that discovered nerve growth factor in CANCER took a pure form of the stubstance via eye-drops (wtf) for the next 40 years of her life with no negative effects. +1 for NGF
EDIT 4: It seems when these Russian nootropics promote NGF it is in the brain only. Most research seems to be about the effects of NGF in the body in general. We know it has a exacerbating effect on breast and prostate cancer, yet a neutral or even ameliorating effect on other cancers.
This either means that the substance is completely safe (or even benefici…

Brain cancer is most common in young people, and is actually the leading cause of cancer deaths for people under age 39.

Cancer is not common in young adults, but a wide variety of cancer types can occur in this age range, and treating these cancers can be challenging for a number of reasons.
The vast majority of cancers occur in older adults. The most common cancers in older people are skin, lung, colorectal, breast (in women), and prostate (in men). Many cancers in adults are linked to lifestyle-related risk factors (such as smoking, being overweight or obese, or lack of physical activity) or to other environmental factors. A small portion are strongly influenced by changes in a person’s DNA (gene mutations) that they inherit from their parents.
There are many types of brain and spinal cord tumors, and the treatment and outlook for each is different. In children, most brain tumors start in the lower parts of the brain, such as the cerebellum (which coordinates movement) or brain stem (which connects the brain to the spinal cord). Adults are more likely to develop tumors in upper parts of the brain. Spinal cord tumors are less common than brain tumors in all age groups.
Brain tumors are more common in older adults. However, there are some specific brain cancers that are more common in younger people. However, that does not mean that brain cancer in general is more common in younger people than adults. It's exactly the opposite. Older adults get more instances of brain cancer than young people do.
I found that there are 9,400 new instances of brain tumors in the UK each year. Only 400 of those are in children. I am not sure about the under 39 number, though. Could be right.
