Ah, so the high from the oral route is actually verifiably different from the high from the smoked route in terms other than potency and duration.

No, not to my knowledge. The liver working to metabolize substances, and liver toxicity, are not the same thing. It's your liver's job to metabolize things. So just because something is hepatically metabolized, does not automatically mean it is damaging or straining the liver.
