5-htp "hangover"
Original post in this thread

I have been supplementing with 5-htp for about a week in an attempt to alleviate a bit of my depressive and anxious proclivities and it seems to be making a small, yet noticeable positive difference. However, I have been finding it very hard to get out of bed in the mornings since I have started taking it and seem to wake up with an elevated HR. Do you guys have any experience with these side effects? My dose has been 200mg before bed. Thoughts? Not sure if this belongs in /r/stackadvice or not but I apoligize in advance if I goofed.

5-HTP has always been a two-faced supplement for me. Sometimes I just feel emotions more strongly throughout the day, but often it's accompanied by increased irritability and increased body temperature. I think L-Tryptophan (precursor to 5-HTP) is cleaner in that regard. I stick to only taking it once every other week when I feel significantly low on Serotonin, I didn't find it that beneficial taking it every day.
If I remember right, /u/misteryouaresodumb mentioned before that 5-HTP is best taken together with Green Tea Extract (I assume because of EGCG).

EGCG is a peripheral aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase inhibitor. That will help prevent the 5-HTP from converting to serotonin in the periphery.
