Long term effects of Super Rhodiola ?

Original post in this thread

mintakax · 19 points

I have started taking super rhodiola (Ceretropics) daily for the last four days and am finding that it significantly improves my mood and focus. As a matter of fact I really like it ! I am taking the recommended dose once per day in the morning. My mood and focus were not deficient prior to rhodiola, so I'm using it as an enhancement rather than therapy. Because of this, I'm not willing to sacrifice health for its benefits. I am a 65 year old male in good physical condition and still working as an earth scientist.
I know the two active substances in the extract are synthetics of natural substances, but the amounts are much greater than they are in the plant, correct ?
So, what might be the health downsides to long term daily use of super rhodiola ? Would cycling mitigate these ?
If so, what would be the recommended cycle ?
Apologies if this is common knowledge, I have attempted to research all I could.

Here are some interesting studies that have been posted about the active ingredients in our Super Rhodiola.

This is an absolutely fantastic and in-depth review of Rhodiola, it's active ingredients, and the effect each has on downstream mechanisms, like gene expression, immune function, cortisol modulation, and behavioral effects. It is probably one of the most comprehensive studies I have ever read.

Mechanism of action of Rhodiola, salidroside, tyrosol and triandrin in isolated neuroglial cells: An interactive pathway analysis of the downstream effects using RNA microarray data

the biological activity of the Rhodiola total extract differs from the activity of the purified compounds; however, some pharmacological features associated with these 112 inactive genes that are associated with the pure substances cannot be observed with the extract.
each purified compound exhibited its own pharmacological profile, which presents with similarities to and differences from the profile obtained after treatment with the total Rhodiola extract. In general, several compounds contribute to the specific cellular or/and physiological functions associated with various diseases. The results of this study support both the principles of pharmacognosy based on the “magic bullet” model and the concept of multi-targeted therapy. Both of these concepts are relevant depending on the application, which is to develop a new specific drug from a complex or to develop a drug with a novel MOA.
Based on the results obtained during this study, we can draw some additional conclusions. Rhodiola has a multi-targeted effect at the transcriptional level on cell response regulation, affecting various signaling pathways and molecular networks associated with beneficial effects on emotional behavior, particularly aggressive behavior, as well as psychological, neurological, cardiovascular, metabolic, endocrine, and gastrointestinal disorders.

I am still trying to parse through everything in this study, because there is seriously a ton of amazing info. However, they are confirming a lot of postulations I had when creating our Super Rhodiola; mainly that a combination of active ingredients gives unique effects to the whole plant extract, due to a lack of competitive mechanisms.

This is a good diagram illustrating the differing effects on gene expression of each component, and what they share with each other.

So I certainly plan to keep tweaking the mixture of active ingredients in our Super Rhodiola, to improve the overall balance of effects. I am really excited that researchers are starting to do in-depth studies on the active constituents of Rhodiola.

What happens if you stop?

Replying to [deleted] · > Not many people take as many different nootropics as I do Now you've got me curious! What's your current daily stack, if you don't mind me asking?

Today was: * 100mg nefiracetam * 10mg noopept * 500mg ALCAR * 150mg Na-R-ALA * 500mg NALT * 12.5mg ephedrine * 100mg caffeine * 1,000mg taurine * 5g creatine monohydrate * 500mg rhodiola * 570mg ashwagandha * 250mg baco

Replying to TheOptimizzzer · Curious if you have any ranking system and/or like +1 effects that one would use to decide which AMPK supplement stack is optimal for their purposes without overstimulation. I like

Ohh man, a system like that which would cross-reference every product combination out there would be nuts. It would likely be impossible to create. We could have some sort of system to apply specific metrics to each prod

Has anyone tried Excelerol? I'm interested in trying it because it is apparently one of the best nootropics out there, but I'm a bit suspicious because I've never heard anyone talk about it on this subreddit.
