So I was taking Rhodiola Rosea...

Original post in this thread

I was taking Rhodiola Rosea from NOW Foods at 500mg. At first it was boosting my mood and giving me more energy. Then I started to notice that I was getting extraordinarily sleepy after about 4 hours and the mood elevating symptoms were not as intense. I followed the advice of a previous post and cut my dose in half (down to 250mg every morning). That seemed to do the trick. The overall feeling of happiness and higher energy has returned without the after lunch sleepiness. Does anybody know why this is? And has anyone figured out the right dose per kg for Rhodiola?

Adaptogens are one of those things that are going to vary person to person. I have never tried Rhodiola Rosea, so I cannot provide you with an anecdote. However, it has been shown to inhibit both MAO-A and MAO-B, as well as promoting the release of norepinephrine. This means that consistently high dosing can lead to levels which are too high to be beneficial. It's also going to depend on the other supplements you are taking with it. If you are dosing something like hordenine and quercetin with it, you might even need to lower the dosage more.
