Liftmode L-Theanine destroyed my insides

Original post in this thread

I just purchased some supplements from Liftmode (I love Liftmode), including L-Theanine, which I have heard great things about. I tried one of the orange scoops (it measures about 230mg of L-Theanine) that Liftmode includes, and took it along side a cup of coffee. It was great - I was focused yet did not experience any of the jitteryness.

Later that afternoon I experienced some stomach discomfort and I brushed it off. I took another scoop (~230mg) in the evening and laid down for bed. Soon after, I experienced the most explosive diarrhea I have ever encountered in my life. I blasted water out of my asshole like a supersoaker at least 4 times, destroying my bathroom. I was awake until the wee hours of the night going back and forth between the bathroom, scared to go to bed in fear I would shit the sheets. The diarrhea continues to this afternoon despite skipping L-Theanine today. I had to fart earlier at work and nearly had an accident.

Has anyone else experienced this from L-Theanine? Its a shame because I love the mental effects.

Well actually...

This states that it causes a calcium release:

As an increase in calcium release[35] and dopamine stimulation[22] with high concentrations of Theanine (800µM) seem to be blocked with the NMDA antagonist D-2-amino-5-phosphonopentanoate, it appears that theanine may signal through NMDA receptors at high concentrations.

Calcium is a stool hardener. This calcium depletion, compounded with caffeine, which also depletes calcium and taking dose of magnesium, may induce the observed laxative effect.

To get any meaningful effect from that, he would have to take very large doses. It's more likely he ate something that started causing him issues right when he started the L-theanine, then attributed the effects to the new substance he just added.

Something is wrong with this sub

Replying to amirrorbehind · One of the contributing factors is the cult of celebrity. I need not explain who nor am I criticizing, but once a respected member of our community turned into a research chemical

Yep, my fault guys. I'll just stop posting, and things will get better. It's all on me... You can all go back to caffeine/L-theanine, long winded modafinil, and "does piracetam work" posts. No need to advance the communi

What is the best nootropic for someone looking primarily for a boost of energy and motivation that's stronger than caffeine but less extreme than amphetamines?

6mg of melatonin is too much. I take .5-1mg. Melatonin has been shown to be much more effective at lower doses. Lower your dose and see how that works. 6mg would mean a very hard time waking up, and hours of foggyness in

I wrestled with that one for a long long time. I don't blame you for being disappointed. The vast majority of the products we are releasing are not going to be proprietary. However, the Alcohol Defense definitely needed

A word on caffeine + l-theanine

Replying to AoE-Priest · Both interesting studies. The first one actually also showed some anti-nootropic effects of theanine as well, but overall both studies seem to be suggestive of at least minor syner

L-theanine is certainly anti-nootropic for me, unless I am using much stronger stimulants than caffeine. Everyone's GABAergic system is going to vary. Mine has seen some things. I can take all sorts of stimulants, and be

Anyone else take L-theanine every day?

Replying to zpkmook · You could say the same for most drugs. It is new in it's isolated concentrated form. Plenty of people think that it could be dangerous in the high dose ranges because they have not

You can't really say that about most drugs, though. Not much has been used more than caffeine, L-theanine, and alcohol across human history. Also, it's not new in its concentrated form. It was discovered in 1949, and fir
