Drinking coffee instead of taking a caffeine supplement?

Hi everybody. I have spent way too much time putting off getting into nootropics and I'm ready to start. I know that the recommended supplements for beginners to start with are caffeine and L-Theanine. I'm looking into getting a coffee making kit very soon to drink in the mornings before school. What are the general opinions and views towards drinking coffee as a source of caffeine rather than using a pill supplement? How would I go about adding L-Theanine to this morning cup of coffee?
Would it be recommended to drink my cup of coffee and have my L-Theanine supplement before or after or during my cup? Does anybody here drink coffee as a source of caffeine rather than use a supplement? Please share your experiences. Looking to buy my coffee kit very soon so I'm also pretty ready to purchase my L-Theanine. Just want to have an idea on how to go about with it all, and also interested in hearing your experiences and findings.
Also, I'll be happy to hear any more recommendations. Please feel free to share all you have to say. I want to learn as much as I can about these things as soon as possible! Thank you!

I drink coffee, use caffeine pills, and drink energy drinks, depending on the day and time. I do like coffee in the morning, while I watch Colbert recorded from the night before. But if I have to rush out quickly, nothing beats a caffeine pill for speed.
