Is it possible to sustainably maintain a state of borderline hypomania on a regular basis?

Interesting, thank you for the response. I suppose it could be useful some of the time, but there are times when "calm focus" is needed too. I know it's a pain for someone who deals with it regularly but as someone who's been feeling low energy and unmotivated I long for that state.

I sustained a state of hypomania for around 5 years. I was traveling the world, meeting new people, trying new things, skydiving, jetboating, mountain biking, whitewater rafting, duning, flying to music festivals in the Netherlands and Australia. It was a fun, but tiring time. It eventually catches up to you. For all the fun I was having, and all the people I met, I was lonely a lot of the time. There was no constant in my life.

Now I barely leave my house! I work from home most of the time, and have an awesome girlfriend. I now have two dogs, and have a relatively normal routine. It comes with its own challenges, like cabin fever. I went from being in a new country ever couple weeks to living in the same space day in and day out. So there are definitely tradeoffs to any lifestyle.

I do miss a lot of it. However, I also remember how tiring it was, and how lonely it was. Also, keep in mind this state of hypomania was not induced by any substance or nootropics. I had come out of a bad depression, and the hypomanic rebound was caused by the drastic change in my lifestyle. I was working out, getting extremely healthy, meeting new people, doing new things. It was really just a natural hypomania that I did not even really realize was happening till later on. However, in retrospect, I was clearly hypomanic.

So it can be sustained, given the appropriate level of activity. You don't even necessarily need any substances to achieve it. Also, it can be extremely enjoyable. However, there is always a tradeoff. I would not change anything, though. It is a big part of who I am today.
