I know it's not popular in these parts, but I've been playing Lumosity games since my wife got me an annual membership for Christmas 2012. I usually play two or three times a week. I leveled off in about three months, but kept playing the games I liked, mostly for fun. I had 95+s in Flexibility, Attention and Memory, but mid 80s for Speed and Problem solving. Almost two weeks ago I started taking Piracetam, and yesterday, my Modafinil came in so I played a few games since. I just looked and my low categories were up 5 points and In the last two weeks, I've picked up 152 BPI points (Whateverthehell those are.)

Same here, raised my APM (actions per minute) on Dota 2 from 94 to 134 over a year.
Conclusion: Practice makes perfect.
I realize Luminosity shows improvement visibly, in turn making a sense of accomplishment. The thing is you could apply this to anything in your life and come to the initial conclusion.
Is it a waste of money? Not if it gives you a sound state of mind. and overall improvement towards your self-perception.
My previous posts towards Lumosity have been strongly negative, but now I am starting to think it is the same as any other video-game, which do have benefits.
The question is if these benefits amount to any substantial change. A comprehensive study/review is lacking.
I would be curious to see how you do next year, or if you plateau again!

The difference is marketing. Video games do not claim to make you smarter. Lumosity does. And since the vast majority of the people that see that marketing are not knowledgeable enough to know that is not true, they are preying on them in a way.
