Chronopharmacology-- coffee will probably be the most effective if you enjoy it between 9:30 AM and 11:30 AM, when your cortisol levels are dropping...

Good old chronopharmacology, replacing neuropharmacology and cytopharmacology as of late for the sexiest name for a subdivision of pharmacology.
That being said, I feel the blog topic here is a bit misguided? The introduction on chronobiology was great, but I feel that trying to judge the best time for caffeine by its influence on cortisol is not the right thing to do. Many mechanisms of caffeine, via the adenosine receptors, may not be accurately reflected in serum cortisol levels.

I agree. How is cortisol a good indication of wakefulness? It's a good indication of stress, but not wakefulness. Also, when did our subjective feelings become worthless? If we are tired, we are tired. I am not going to say, "I'm tired, but my cortisol levels are high. So there is no need for this caffeine right now."
