Being an NMDA Antagonist and all , like memantine , would it have the potential of similar effects on memory ?

not to mention most people (in america from what I read at least), don't get enough magnesium.

Most magnesium is not very bioavailable, as it rapidly binds to insoluble salts in the GI tract. This makes it hard to raise brain magnesium levels naturally. This is also why chelating the molecule to amino acids helps, as it prevents it from binding to insoluble salts, and provides transport pathways for the magnesium. A lot of people have a hard time naturally absorbing magnesium, even if their intake is at the appropriate level.
Also, most of our foods have less magnesium in them than they used to, due to soil depletion. Pair that with the fact that alcohol depletes magnesium in the body, and you can see why a lot of people are deficient.
