Ordered kratom tincture for pain management. I don't know what I'm doing, help?

Hi r/drugs!

I have lupus (yes, it exists and it sucks) and fibromyalgia. As such, I have tried many things for pain relief. Codeine was successful for a bit, but I am afraid that the acetaminophen will take a toll on my body in the long run and prefer a more natural approach since the other medications used to maintain my health are harsh on their own (anti-malarials and such). A fellow lupy suggested kratom, and another friend (herbalist) suggested the tincture. My question is, what is the best method of ingesting the tincture so that I receive the maximum effect without wasting the product.

tl;dr: Lupus and Fibromyalgia are painful, and I want to try kratom tincture-- which means of ingestion are the most effective?

What strain did you order? The tincture is going to be a specific % extract. That is going to determine how much you start with. For pain management, I would suggest a red Borneo vein. For powdered leaf, I would say start with 5 grams. I am not sure what that translates to in your tincture, though.

For the best results, you want to induce your CYP2D6 enzyme and inhibit your CYP3A4. This will allow your body to convert the mitragynine in the kratom to 7-hydroxymitragynine, which is more potent. Piperidine induces CYP2D6, while grapefruit juice inhibits CYP3A4.
