young children doing drugs
Original post in this thread

The other day I met someone who claimed to start smoking weed at the age of four. I'm sure that was bullshit, but it made me think about the ethics of letting children/making children do drugs. What kind of drug do you think would be the best for a child? What do you think psychedelic use such as acid, shrooms, or DMT would do to a child's simplistic worldview? I've never really had a full on discussion about it, except to know that most people say it's wrong.
What they were answering

Pretty much all of those statistics are because of Europeans coming to America. Native tribes have been around for way longer than white people have been in America and they were doing alright without us coming in and royally fucking them over. You're probably right, NOW we shouldn't really look at them as a model for children using drugs, but historically, before they were too fucked up by what the West introduced to them, the model was probably a lot more fair.

Well of course they are. They did not have the issues they face today hundreds of years ago. However, neither did anyone. Using historical events to place the blame gets us nowhere. I agree it's sad what the Europeans did to the Native Americans. I think it's sad what any settling group does to an indigenous group. None of those people responsible at alive anymore, and neither are those that were directly hurt by it. Eventually a population needs to take a step back and start fixing their situation. It doesn't matter if someone else is to blame for it. They have to make an effort to deal with it. I also think that we should be there to help them do it, and we have been. Look how much money and resources goes to the Indian tribes around the country. They have the funding to fix their situation, but they do not step up to the plate. I think it's very unfortunate for both side, but I will not take blame for something I did not do.
The facts are the facts. I would not look to modern American Indians for a model of what parenting should be. It's sad and I think many of the pioneers were assholes, but that's all behind us now. We can only work with what we have now.
