Yeah I have noticed folks from sandy areas(myself included) don't really take off their shoes when they get home. If sand is gonna get in my shoes are not the major vector here.

I take them off before going to the carpeted upstairs, but downstairs is free reign.

AZ here too. I have a sand filled backyard with a tiki bar, and my downstairs is all tile. I just let the sand go where it wants. Who am I to tell it where to go?

It's current policy in Chicago to not respond to non-violent crimes. There are actually signs in certain parts of the city. Too much violent crime and not enough police to handle it.
