Curious if anybody knows the effects of MDMA as nootropic in low dosage situations.

It's not a nootropic. Use the term cognitive enhancer if that is what you are looking for.
What type of cognitive enhancement are you postulating MDMA could possess? In what doses are we talking? Below threshold or at threshold?
MDMA's main binding affinity is for the SERT, where it reverses it's actions. It also had mild binding affinities for NE and DA transporters, as well as being a partial agonist to a few 5-HT sub-receptors. It is neurotoxic, mildly cardiotoxic, and hepatoxic. That toxicity can be mitigated, but that is a whole other discussion. I do not see any reason to use it for cognitive enhancement.
That being said, it has changed my life. It got me to see the world and my own brain from a totally different perspective. I am who I am today because of it. It can be an extremely beneficial substance when used properly. That does not mean that we should ignore the risks, as there are many.
