I think its just they know something is up. Think about it. They can probably notice your pupils. You're probably talking way different, and louder then you normally do. Moving around strangely, the big goofy ass smile on you're face. You are not sharing a divine moment with your cat. The cat just thinks you're a dumbass.

I don't know man. We tripped with my dog and we all just knew when she had to pee. It was weird.

You would be surprised at how many visual cues animals, as well as humans, give off. The activity at your serotonin system during psychedelic use enhances your ability to perceive and interpret these visual cues.
