Why do we have the word "atheism"?

There is plenty of reason to believe in a god. A lot of people have issues with realizing that after death, there is nothing. As an alternative these individuals turn to a religion.

Religion is just a drug for weak-willed individuals to numb the pain of mortality.

To be fair, I would not categorize religious people as weak-willed. I see religion as a crutch. A crutch that one uses till they can grow into the ability to be at peace with reality. This does not make them weak willed. It merely means that they are at a different place in their journey.
