People say they can tell the cheap tudcas are good from the taste, but only let's you know it is a bile acid, not true tudca or udca. To make tudca or udca it takes multiple extra chemical steps. The cheap stuff could just be plain cow bile acids that do not have the same or can even have the opposite therapeutic effects.

I highly doubt anyone can really tell the quality of TUDCA by taste, unless they have calibrated their taste buds using properly assayed batches, and those impurities have specific flavors. Assay against a validated reference standard is the only real way to tell purity. Our sense of smell and taste is pretty sensitive, but it has no context for what pure and impure is.
