I’ve heard that lowering inflammation before bed can mess with sleep and I read on the web page for ND’s tart cherry that it affects inflammation. But I also know it can boost sleep so I’m wondering if it’s ok right before bed.

The short answer to this is yes, you can take it before bed. It helps many people with sleep. The long answer is that is is more complicated than that. Our tart cherry extract has no melatonin in it. I know some were speculating it did, but we tested and found none. What is leading to the sleep effects is the anthocyanins lowering uric acid. That is having a sleep promoting effect in some people. The kicker is that high uric acid can cause short sleep duration. So for people that are not getting enough sleep, tart cherry should help that. However, low uric acid was correlated with poor sleep quality. This means that if your uric acid is already low, taking tart cherry might make sleep quality worse. So it really depends on if you have high or low uric acid. As always, things are more complex than they seem on the surface.
