That is awesome that you did that! Honestly it doesn't stand out nearly as much in the smell as it does in the taste. The smell just has a sweetness or fruity aspect to it as you said.
There is a very distinct aftertaste that hasn't been present in any other batch I have had than the two I mentioned. I actually enjoy it though. I may be perceiving it as citrus due to whatever it is combined with the acidic/sour taste that phenibut normally has.
Thanks for looking into it! I'm curious what it might be. I blew it off as a one time thing last summer, but when I got an order this summer and it had the same distinct taste again it got me wondering.

Phenibut is an HCL salt. The sourness you are tasting is the hydrochloric acid part of the salt. It overpowers most stuff. It's what makes up your stomach acid. Citrus has citric acid in it, which might be why you associate it.
I tasted that batch and it seemed like normal phenibut HCL to me, but I am not a connoisseur. LOL. The HCL kind of just takes over the flavor.
