Heavy Metals Measurements

Take lead as an example. It seems the FDA regulates that candies have less than 0.1ppm, and the EPA demands that drinking water has <15ppb, yet I see that ND lists <0.5ppm for each product I checked, which seems meaningfully higher, but I suppose is due to the volume of consumption. In any case, is there a reason for the lack of precision? I figure they can get a specific value. And how would say 0.4ppm fare within the world of supplements?

Thanks, I appreciate the thorough answer. After some brief additional research, I feel much more knowledgeable about heavy metal limits and intakes.

My pleasure! We look at every ingredient individually, and assess daily dosing amounts before we set our limits. Most of the time our actual results are way way below our limits.
